Saline Valley

I made these pieces shortly after a visit to Saline Springs in Death Valley.
Over a two day stay, I watched a massive sand storm arise, rage, and then subside into absolute stillness and silence after a night of rain (and snow on the high mountain peaks). The oasis is higher than the valley floor, so I was able to see the full height and breadth of the storm: the entire Saline Valley was filled sky-high with a mind-boggling, primeval beast. A vast, elemental, pure intensity underlies everything in that land. It is breathtaking.

The photos do not quite describe the real feeling, but you may perhaps catch a glimpse.
From the entrance to the Valley.

It begins: the winds are up but the sky still blue.
Then not.
